Project Description
Toenail Fungus Laser Treatment
The most common cause of brittle yellowing nails is fungal infection. More than 35 million Americans have fungal nail infections. Fungi are dermatophytes that feed on nail keratin. These organisms propagate in a warm, dark and moist environment. There is no better place for nail fungus to reside and infect toenails than in shoes. Infected nails have yellow or white spots. Nails will get thicker, further discolor and fracture, as the infection develops. Progressive infection of additional nails is also very common.
How does laser treatment work?
A light beam is shined on your nail. The beam travels through the nail where it heats up and kills the fungus. New, healthy nail gradually grows out, replacing the yellowed nail and sick nail.
Is it painful? How many treatments will I need?
Is very common that you will need just one or two treatments, and treatment takes only a few minutes. The treatment is not painful, and you will be able to walk out of the office after the procedure. New, healthy nails should be visible during the first 3 to 4 months, with complete nail replacement in 6 to 9 months.
